Structures of all types such as buildings, bridges, highways, dams and tunnels rest directly on, in, and against the soil. Hence, proper analysis on the geotechnical behavior of the soil in this region is necessary to ensure that these engineering structures are safe and free from undue settlement and collapse.It covers most town and urban areas in Sarawak, such as Samarahan, Sarikei, Sibu, Kuching and Miri.
