Abstract

Due to its role as the main joining method in the automotive industry, there is a continuous need to understand the mechanical performance and behaviour of these spot welds during a crash sequence. A design for the specimen and the setup has been created to allow for impact testing. After performing the impact tests, it was found that the lowest impact energy absorbed was 26 J using 3 kA and 7 cycles.
