Abstract

Like most composite materials, metal matrix composites (MMCs) provide significantly enhanced properties over conventional monolithic materials, such as higher strength, stiffness and lightweight. While continuous fiber reinforcement provides the most effective strengthening, aprticle reinforced materials are more attractive due to their lower cost of production, isotropic properties and their ability to be processed using similar technology used for monolithic materials. By taking these advantages into consideration, a study on MMC is chosen for this particular project by make use of Aluminium alloy as matrix and agriculture by product, Rice Husk Ash (RHA) as the reinforcement. This paper discussed all the methods involved in this particular study starting fromthe material preparation, fabrication, machining and mechanical testing.
