Abstract

In this study, a thermal analysis model is developed to determine temperature distribution when orthogonally machining Inconel 718 using finite elements method. ALumina based ceramic was used as cutting tool material in the turning process. Heat is generated in the primary deformation zone, the secondary deformation zone, the tool-chip interface and a small frictional zone at tool-workpiece.
