Title
Renewable energy harvesting using vortex induced vibration
The project experimentally investigates the behavior of 'lock-in' phenomenon by using water tunnel facility specifically developed to study the potential of VIV. The aims of this research is to study such as the behavior of 'lock-in' phenomenon to create higher VIV and also maximizing vortex induced vibration to create higher amplitude of oscillating cylinder. It is also to investigate different size and geometries of cylinder that could provide greater energy conversion rate. Besides to design and construct a low speed open channel tank to be used for VIV experiments, it is also to determine potential mechanical power, efficiency and the validity of the energy harnessing device.
