A simple gas turbine prototype is constructed for experimental purposes using an automotive turbo charger. The turbo charger consists of a turbine and a centrifugal compressor which made up the main components of a gas turbine. A can-type combustion chamber is designed and simulated by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool, i.e. FLUENT. Propane (C3H8) is used as the combustion fuel agent. A 3D steady state standard k-e turbulent species transport (non-premixed) combustion model with Eddy Dissipation model is used for simulating the combustion process. Four species of simulation are considered, i.e. carbon dioxide (CO2), propane (C3H8) and water (H2O). The flow profiles of the simulation are observed and analyzed. A prototype of can-type combustion chamber gas turbine will be constructed to test on the ability of propane combustion.
