Title
Through thickness mechanical properties of steel plates
Lamellar tearing - a transgranular tearing with step-like cracking appearance often occurs under steel wedment normal to the through thickness direction of the steel plates. Steels of low through thickness ductility associated with the extent of non-metal inclusions are most susceptible to lamellar tearing driven by the end restraint effect and thermal contractions from the weldment. This project provides a measure of resistance to lamellar tearing with the investigations on the through thickness properties of structural steel plates for fixed offshore structure. The primary objective of this project was to develop an experimental testing protocol in evaluating the through thickness properties of structural.
