This thesis presents the investigation report on vector control of squirrel-cage induction motor. The topic basically consists of two parts, which is software and hardware. This thesis focuses on hardware investigation on how controlling the machine speed, and brake by the computer program via the rectifier/inverter board circuit and vector control technique. The investigation on this was start by understands the concept of vector control or field-orientated control. The next step is to get deep understanding on the frequency converter drive and motro operation by help of the manual available. Only then, vector control strategy can be applied to the motor. The experiment invovle was to get used with the drive and the machine, as well as to observe the motor characteristic and performance when vector control applied. Besides that, this thesis are not bounded by vector control investigation only but it investigate also some other control technique such as Scalar Control and Pulse Width Modulated Technique. The main purpose for that is to observe the performance, strength and weakness part of those technique compate to vector control. The thesis then concludes with problems encountered and suggestion for future development to improve this project.
