This thesis presents the simulation and implementation of Triac ac-ac converter. The thesis mainly divided into two main parts that is simulation and hardware implementation of an ac-ac converter. The thesis mainly divided into two main parts that is simulation and hardware implementation of an ac-ac converter. In the simulation process, two types of power switches (thyristor and triac) are discussed for comparing purposes. The simulation process is started by study the switching characteristic of the power switches. Then an ac-ac converter is also known as cycloconverter. With a proper design consideration in simulation, a hardware implementation is carried out. Only Triac is considered in implementation porcess. As in simulation, the effect of switching on and off the triac is observed by a proper load, whereby the frequency is kept as the source frequency in this stage to study the switching characteristic. A variable frequency ac signal is then generated by a cycloconverter constructed as prototype on breadboard. Curtin Laboratory Interface Controller (CLIC) is a crucial element in the frequency conversion. The thesis then concludes with problems encountered and suggestion for future development to improve this project.
