Abstract

heoretical analysis of the structure column model was conducted using Mathead Professional (2001). The commercial software, Lusas 13.6 (2004) which is finite element analysis program, was used to generate the finite element models to verify the theoretical work. The transition values obtained from both of the analysis are compared to the result obtained from the formula proposed by Lau (2002). For predicting the buckling behavior of a column, the transition condition for the column base connextion to change mode as proposed by Lau (2002) was verified.
