Abstract

Solar energy is rapidly advancing as an important means of renewable energy resource. This thesis includes the design and construction of a prototype microcontroller-based solar panel tracking system. Solar tracking produces more energy than normal standalone solar panels. More energy is produced because the solar panel is able to remain aligned to the sun and hence keeping the solar panel right angle to the rays of light will produce maximum energy output. A working prototype will be demonstrated to validate the design. Problems and possible improvements to the solar tracker will also be presented.

The thesis shows two degree of freedom solar tracking system using light dependent resistors and motors.
