A Senior Application Developer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, integrating, and improving the university’s business applications and digital platforms. The role provides technical leadership to ensure applications are secure, reliable, scalable, user-friendly, and aligned with institutional requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Major duties and responsibilities include:

1.Application Development & Enhancement – Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain web-based and enterprise applications.

2.System Analysis & Requirements – Analyse business requirements, translate user needs into technical specifications, and recommend appropriate application solutions.

3.Software Architecture & Design – Develop application architecture, database structures, APIs, interfaces, and technical designs following development standards.

4.System Integration – Develop and maintain integrations between university systems such as Student Information Systems, Finance, HR, LMS, payment systems, identity management, and third-party platforms.

5.Database Development & Management – Design and optimise databases, queries, stored procedures, and data interfaces to ensure performance and data integrity.

6.Application Security – Implement secure coding practices, access controls, authentication, data protection, vulnerability remediation, and other application security measures.

7.Troubleshooting & Support – Diagnose and resolve complex application issues, performance problems, system errors, and integration failures.

8.Application Maintenance – Manage application upgrades, patches, enhancements, bug fixes, version control, and technical documentation.

9.Testing & Quality Assurance – Develop and conduct unit, integration, system, and user acceptance testing to ensure applications meet functional and technical requirements.

10.Project Implementation – Lead or participate in application development projects, including planning, development, deployment, vendor coordination, and post-implementation support.

11.Vendor & Third-Party Management – Work with software vendors and external developers on integrations, technical issues, enhancements, and system implementations.

12.Documentation & Governance – Maintain system architecture, technical specifications, source-code documentation, application inventories, and change records in accordance with ICT governance requirements.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Degree in Software Development/Software Engineering
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in application/software development, with significant experience in enterprise or web-based applications.
• Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining applications using ASP.NET/C# and SQL/MySQL or equivalent technologies.
• Experience in designing and implementing system integrations using APIs, web services, and databases.
• Experience in application troubleshooting, performance optimization, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Experience in leading or participating in application development and digital transformation projects. 
• Strong knowledge of software development life cycles (SDLC), application architecture, and software engineering principles.
• Good knowledge of ASP.NET / ASP.NET Core, C#, MVC, REST APIs and web application development.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, SQL queries, stored procedures, optimisation, and data integrity.
• Knowledge of system integration, APIs, web services, authentication, and data exchange.
• Knowledge of secure software development practices, OWASP principles, application security, and data protection.
• Knowledge of version control systems such as Git and software development/testing methodologies.
• Understanding of enterprise systems commonly used in a university environment, including CMS, LMS, Finance, HR, payment, identity management, and reporting systems, is desirable.
• Proficient in analysing, designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining applications.
• Strong programming and debugging skills.
• Ability to develop and consume RESTful APIs and system integrations.
• Strong database development and performance-tuning skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex application, database, integration, and performance issues.
• Ability to conduct code reviews and enforce coding standards.
• Ability to produce technical specifications, system documentation, data-flow diagrams, and application architecture documentation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project-management skills.
